The curtain from samsung's latest flagship(galaxy s5) has now risen. It's not as dramatic a change as some people would have anticipated. The shape is similar, the weight is similar and it's a little thicker at 8.1mm thick. One of the most intriguing feature of s5 is the fingerprint scanner which is underneath the phone's screen. It looks like samsung had to include this feature in its latest flagship because apple has also included the similar feature in iphone 5s. S5 is IP67 certified which makes it water and dust resistant.Water proof doesn't mean that you can submerge the phone inside the water but yes it will take a drop or two if you try talking to someone while it's raining. S5 has a complete plastic body but doesn't feel cheap while holding in hands. The glossy back cover has been replaced by matte like material which looks and feels a lot like the original nexus 7. The rear of the phone has a heart rate sensor which monitors your heart rate when you place your finger at the back of the phone. None of these hardware features are mobile essential though. The screen of the phone is not very different from the last year's iteration. It's a bit bigger at 5.1 inches. The screen looks fantastic and has great color reproduction, contrast and black level are excellent. The interface of the phone is not great but samsung seem to have put in a lot of efforts in making the UI less cluttered. The battery is slightly bigger than s4 which was essentially needed to compliment the bigger size of the screen. The megapixels of the camera have increased from 13 to 16 which again is not a drastic improvement over s4. But samsung claims that s5's camera has the highest auto-focus speed among all the smartphones.
The phone is equipped with snapdragon 800 processor and 2 gb of ram. That's more than enough power for your day to day activities.
Galaxy s5 feels like another top notch smartphone with loads of new features, but these features are not something a person can not live with. Everyone might not care about a heart rate sensor, finger print scanner, and water resistance.
